Grinder: Frequently asked questions
What is a grinder?
A device called a Dry Grass Grinder is used to meticulously fragment dry grasses into very small pieces, mainly for the purpose of burning them. Typically made up of 2 parts, each part is equipped with teeth or sharp points which, when turned against each other, act to crush the grass, producing small, uniform fragments.
There are also 4-piece grinders, which have two additional compartments separated by a sieve, facilitating the separation of grass and pollen, allowing each to be harvested separately.
How to use a grinder
Using a grinder is extremely easy. Simply place your herbs in the upper part, close the grinder, then turn it by rotating the two parts in opposite directions. The more rotations you make, the finer the grind becomes.
Why use a grinder?
There are many reasons why using a grinder to break up your dried herbs is advantageous.
- Less waste: A grinder shreds the exact amount of grass needed, reducing waste.
- More practical: a grinder is a practical, easy-to-use tool. It crushes herbs quickly and effortlessly, unlike scissors or other manual methods.
- Cleaner: A grinder lets you grind your herbs without getting your fingers or the environment dirty.
- More efficient: finer-ground dry grass is easier to use and dose for rolling joints or loading a spray bottle.
What type of grinder should I choose?
A variety of grinders made from different materials are available on the market, the most common of which are :
- Plastic : Acrylic or plastic grinders are the most economical, but can be less durable and harder to clean.
- Metal: Metal grinders are the strongest and most durable, and are easier to clean. They are available in aluminum, stainless steel and brass.
- Ceramic: Ceramic or ceramic-coated grinders offer smoother gliding and guarantee a more hygienic surface, as they do not stick and are easy to clean.
- Wood: Wooden grinders are aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly, but often cost more depending on the type of wood, and require special maintenance.
Which grinder for CBD?
Selecting the optimum grinder for CBD consumption depends mainly on your requirements and budget.
We generally suggest that you opt for metal or ceramic materials, as they offer greater durability and reliability while requiring less maintenance than wood.
Another feature to consider is the number of rooms (or floors): opt for a 2-piece grinder if you prefer a more compact, discreet format. However, if you like to grind a certain quantity in advance, a 4-piece grinder would be potentially more useful, thanks to its separating chambers designed for storage.
How much does a grinder cost?
The cost of a grinder is influenced by many factors, including materials, build quality and brand. We recommend that you opt primarily for a ceramic or metal grinder, as they are more resistant and much easier to maintain and clean than other commonly used materials.
When and how to clean a grinder
To clean the surface of your grinder, a toothbrush or small brush will suffice. Simply brush the entire grinder vigorously to remove any pollen build-up that may be trapped in corners.
For more thorough cleaning, we recommend using isopropyl alcohol. The simplest method is to fully immerse the grinder in an alcohol bath, or use a toothbrush previously dipped in the liquid.
After each cleaning, remember to rinse your grinder thoroughly and allow it to dry, to avoid contamination of your flowers by any residues of cleaning products.
How to maintain your grinder
It’s a good idea to maintain your grinder regularly to avoid the build-up of residues that can hamper its operation. Here are a few recommendations:
- Choose very dry grasses: some grasses can be damp, so they tend to stick more than usual. To keep your herb dry, store it in a jar or airtight container, away from moisture.
- Thoroughly crush your grass: several rotations of your grinder will grind your grass more finely, preventing it from getting stuck in the holes or jamming between the teeth.
- Clean it regularly: remember to brush your grinder regularly to remove pollen build-up before it solidifies, and to keep your teeth sharp.
